Wondering if I can wander Normandy and Loire valley without reservations the last 2 weeks of May and find b and b's or hotels on the fly? Or should I reserve ahead? Thanks
I agree with Steve. You can do it - easily - but why waste your precious time in France searching for lodging plus you are surely going to find that which is left after others have reserved ahead. We have stayed in many great B&Bs that had only two or three rooms. In places like these, he who picks first gets the nicest room. In hotels, it is probably less important.
May I recommend two fantastic B&B's for your two sites? As mentioned above, book early, though:
Normandy: http://www.la-ducrie.com (A restored Norman castle - idyllic setting, warm hosts, great location)
Loire Valley: http://www.moulinsdevontes.com (Three beautiful rooms situated in a restored mill, right in the middle of the River Indres.)
thanks so much for the info!
