Has anyone been to a MASS service at one of the Paris cathedrals? Which one is not to be missed. The mass at the Notre Dame or Sacre Coeur during the weekdays? I assume it will be very busy. If we wanted to attend what time should we arrive in order to get a nice seat/view of the mass? Please suggest...
Hi Bee--Here is Notre Dame's website:

Weekday mass won't be crowded, but tourists will be milling around even while mass is going on.
Morning weekday mass won't be said on the main altar, either, but in the choir, behind the main altar.
I did Christmas Eve Mass at Notre Dame, and it was magical, but for a normal day I think I would pick one of the other churches. THe "tourists" wandering around taking photos tend to detract from the service to me. And there are lots of beautiful churchs in Paris.
We attended the Sunday mass at St. Sulpice with the accompanying organ concert and it was very nice. Arriving 10 minutes before the mass at St. Suplice would get you a good seat. Try to see a concert at Ste. Chapelle at night. Even though it is not a mass, it is very beautiful and moving.
I attended a special evening mass at Notre Dame, Sunday a.m. at St. Sulpice and was at Sacre Coeur during the ending of a noon weekday mass. All had tourists in the buildings while mass is going on which can be very distracting. After the 10:30am mass at St. Sulpice there is a 30 minute organ recital, and after that you can go to the organ chamber if you wish.
I also suggest you go to one of the other churches. Some yrs ago, I attended mass at a little church on rue du Bac across from Le Bon Marche. I loved it as it reminded me of a church I attended while in grade school. There are lots of churches to choose from.
There is only one cathedral in Paris. The rest are churches.
