Does anyone have any experience/recommendations on taking a ferry from Marseilles to Oran?? Just a crazy thought that entered my head.

No personal experience but I have a friend who routinely takes the ferry to Algiers: he prefers the Algerian company (Algérie Ferries) to the French one (SNCM) because the meals are all-inclusive rather than having to pay extra. Other than that I believe that the crossing is a pleasant one (generally over night) and depending on what you pay you can choose between just a seat or an individual cabin.

Thanks Ian,
I will be in St Chamas for about four weeks in April and May and thought going to northern Africa might be a neat experience...but it is a long boat ride, and the dollars are mounting!
