Has anyone been to the maritime museum in Barcelona? Is it worth it? How much time would you alot for it?
Great little museum, actually....well worth the time if you're a maritime fan. About 2 hours should do it. Lots of models and displays, several nice dioramas about life aboard ship 300 years ago, etc. Dominated by a huge life-sized reproduction of a rowing galley. When you get on deck, there's a 3D projection of the crew at the oars while in battle...really fun to see! The museum itself is built inside what's left of the old royal shipyards, which were begun about 700 years ago, and the waterfront used to be right there. Get the audio guide, which comes as part of your admission price, since everything's referred to by number. At the entrance, see the replica of the submarine Ictíneo, built of wood, and launched in 1859 (down by the waterfront, see a replica of the Ictíneo II, much larger, lauched five years later, and driven by a steam engine.) Also note...there are storage lockers of various sizes at the museum...a good place to dump your stuff if you want to wander to the waterfront.
