We will be staying in the Austrian Alps near Maria Alm in mid-October. Anyone know how the weather will be then? Also looking for fun things to do there. Thanks.
Josey;
We stayed in Maria Alm in Sept. 2009. The weather was beautiful at that time. It was cold over night as you might expect, but very nice during the day. By mid-October not sure most likely there will be snow. You will need a car to get around and explore. The main activity is hiking and biking with lots of trails in the area. We drove over the Hochkonig to Bischofshofen. Then up to Salzburg. By Bishofshofen in Werfen is the castle Hohenwefen. They have a wonderfull birds of prey show. All along the way are cute alpine villages. It's so beautiful and quaint. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Hi Josey, We've been to this area a few times in early to late October. What we experienced during 5 trips since '01 in October were nice days (very little rain at all) with daytime temps in the 60's to a day or two in the 70's and chilly to cold nights, mid 30's to low 40's. Never had any snow. Zell am See is nearby. Beautiful old town with a gorgeous lakeside setting with an alp back. www.worldisround.com/articles/355540/index.html www.worldisround.com/articles/338868/index.html If you have a car, take a drive along the spectacular Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. www.grossglockner.at/en/ As suggested above, visit Hohenwerfen. www.salzburg-burgen.at/en/werfen/besucherinfo/index.htm Salzburg is an easy day trip also.
