I found a great website that shows pictures of the Marburg Christmas market. Marburg is located in the picturesque Lahn river valley round about one hour's drive North of Frankfurt. http://www.weihnachtenseite.de/marburg1.html
While Marburg is very nice, their Christmas markets leave a lot to be desired. I would not go out of my way to visit them. (I lived there over the Christmas season for 2002 and 2003.)

This year and last, we visited Franken, Regensburg and München in the spring/summer time. Next year we wish to mix things up a bit. I have been thinking of the Rhein & Stuttgart in the fall, or Franken and Stuttgart in early December. I have been looking to add a couple new cities to our plans and coincidently, Marburg was one of them, Aschaffenburg being the other. Is Marburg (or Aschaffenburg) a pleasant place to spend a day or two, not only for tourist sights, but cafes, parks, restaurants and shopping areas. Is the Hauptbahnhof near the main part of town?
Thanks and Regards, Gary
Marburg is one of my favorite cities in Germany. It has a wonderful pedestrian zone, great restaurants (try the Wein Ladl at the top of the market square for a great wine selection in an ancient building.), and a good museum in the castle.
We usually stay at the Europischer Hof, a bit pricey but has parking (essential) and a great included breakfast.
I can second the Europiescher Hof, if this is in Heidelberg. Have stayed there a couple of times and would stay again. Yes it is pricey, but we splurged after staying in modest hotels our last trip. Aschaffenberg was nice, palace, auto museum.
Thanks for the feedback, especially the hotel!
