How can 5 people (2 adults, 18 yr, 15 yr, and 12 yr) get from Marais/Hotel de Ville to Orly on a Thursday; arriving at Orly about 2:00 PM; only a wheeled/carry-on suitcase each?
You can get there via the Metro plus a Regional train. There's a Hotel de Ville 'Metro Station' and a 'hotel' named Hotel de Ville. If you're referring to the metro station, take line 1 (yellow) 1 stop to Chatelet Les Halles. If you're referring to the hotel, Metro stop St. Paul is closer to the hotel and you take the same line 2 stops to Chatelet Les Halles. At Chatelet transfer to the RER B line (blue) going south in the direction of Saint Remy. The next to last stop is 'Antony' where you transfer to a dedicated line to Orly (1st stop Orly Ouset/west & 2nd stop Orly Sud/south.
The short leg on the Orlyval driverless shuttle train from Antony to the airport is pricey. A cheaper route would be to take Metro line 1 from Hotel de Ville to Gare de Lyon, Metro line 14 from there to Biblitheque-Francois Mitterand, and the RER C from there to Pont de Rungis. Then take the airport shuttle bus from Pont de Rungis to the airport.
Take a taxi. It will probably cost less than individual fares for 5 people. Call the English-speaking line of Taxis G7 and tell them how many people you have. And be ready for the taxi 12 minutes before you've reserved it for (the taxi drivers get the call for a specific address 12 minutes before the reservation time. If they're right there, you'll pay for waiting time that you needn't pay for.).
I was beginning to suspect that solution as well. How do I pay the taxi? I have an American Express card with no transaction fees or should I have Euros? How much? And, lastly, if we need to get to Orly by 1:45 PM check-in, what time should we call for the taxi? Thank you all!
Does anybody have any insight as to the above question? Thank you!
Elica go on the G7 website, i bet they can give you an aproximate price if you ask, it is in english and easy to google to find it. If I had to BE at airport by 1.45 I would leave Paris by 1 .. may get there a bit early but thats how I travel, no last minute rushing about...
Yes, you're lucky that you're headed from the south side of town to Orly, which is south of town. If traffic is smooth, you could be there probably in 20 minutes, but I always allow 45 for the inevitable slowdowns on the ring road (périphérique). It should cost 30 or 35€, maybe up to 40 (but I doubt it.). Ask at your hotel what they think as well. Cash is best.
The official Aeroports de Paris site estimates the taxi fare from Gare d'Austerlitz to Orly to be €39. However, you will pay an additional fee for the 4th and 5th passengers and for extra luggage beyond three pieces.
Thank you! Elicia
