Making the most of Medical Tourism

Greetings,
My husband and I have backpacked through Europe several times - most recently through southern Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. -
We recently found out that my brother will be having spinal surgery in January in Breman Germany (he's getting a procedure not available in the US) - and we will be going with him. I've never been to Northern Germany. Our sight-seeking / fun travel time will be limited - but it would be possible for us to fly into and out of different cities. We'd like to make the most of this trip given the season and the fact that we'll spend a bit of time in german hospitals. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maximize this unexpected opportunity for lack of a better word?

Since you are in Northern Germany, spend some time THERE sightseeing. You don't need to fly off some where else. There are some UNESCO sites quite near-by, like Luebeck and Dresden. Or try Quedlinburg, or the Spree wald. Potsdam is beautiful too. Have you thought about Berlin or Hamburg or Hannover? Great cities with plenty to keep you busy. Save your airfare and see these places instead.

PS - I used to work in Westerville at Arthur Treachers!
