Mailing package from Paris

On Page 550 of the Paris book, it is mentioned that PPTs Colissimo XL box has no weight limit. When we went to the PPT, they said not true and told us the weight restriction was 7 kilo for $75 Euro. Are we doing something wrong? Any other ideas out there?

I was just in France in July and mailed 2 Colissimo XL boxes to myself. I was told no weight limit and I paid 42 euro per box. Expensive but worth it to ship some extra luggage and acquired wine home. I shipped them on a Friday and they arrived the next Thursday so not too bad on timing either.

We have used this the last two years. We were told that the XL had a 7 kilo limit but it also only cost us 35 Euro. Colleen - If you shipped wine and it made it you were very lucky!
The first year I packed some breakables but felt I had really cushioned them well. When we received the box it looked like it had been dropped repeatedly from a ten story building and the two breakable items were in pieces. Now we only ship non-breakable items but it is a great service and fairly fast.
However if the price is now 75 euro I don't think I would use it.

I did ship wine to myself! I packed 2 bottles in each box, wrapped with bubble wrap and surrounded by dirty clothes, then wrote FRAGILE in big black marker all over the box. However, when the lady in the PPT saw "wine" on the customs declarations she told me that I couldn't ship wine to the US and showed me the FDA reg. After much thought, she gave me new forms to fill out and told me to declare them as bubble bath. She said she couldn't guarantee anything, but the packages were less likely to be opened and items confiscated. I felt a little like an international smuggler, but decided to go ahead and give it a shot. And it worked! I came home to 2 packages of dirty clothes and bubble bath waiting for me. And so far no knocks on the door from customs. :)

Oh, if only our bureaucrats took that attitude...
