Has anyone purchased Zarzuela tickets in Madrid recently? Was it possible to get same-day tickets from the box office at the Teatro de la Zarzuela? I've been trying for weeks to buy advance tickets from the US without success. Rick's 2013 Spain guidebook says tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster, but Ticketmaster stopped selling Teatro de la Zarauela tickets in the summer of 2012. The theatre's website seems to allow online ticket purchase -- by clicking on "buy tickets" you are sent to a ticketing site called INAEM. I get all the way through choosing my date, seats, credit card info -- then on the last click to purchase it says that the transaction did not go through. I've tried this through Crome, Internet Explorer, & Firefox; two different computers; and two different Visa accounts (and they specifically say they take Visa). Of course I've contacted Visa, and my cards are "enacted" for use in Spain. I've bought advance tickets for four other sites (e.g. Sagrada Familia, Alhambra, etc) with absolutely no problem! Can someone help me? As a former music/opera major, seeing a live Zarzuela performance would be a highlight of my trip to Spain, which is in 2 weeks. Thanks to anyone with any information for me!
My sister and i went to see the zarzuela two years ago. We bought our tickets at the theater the evening of the show. we went on a Sunday (the evening show is earlier than other days) and had a wide choice of seating areas. My sister's Spanish was high school level, but she thoroughly enjoyed the play.
Thanks, Jack. I'm glad to hear you could get same-day tickets -- I'll try that. Still no luck with buying tickets online :(
I'm just taking a stab in the dark. But in France, FNAC is the major ticket seller, with low fees. I know that FNAC also has stores in Spain. So, I went to the Spanish FNAC site, and clicked on "Venta de entradas," and was redirected here: http://www.ticktackticket.com/fnac/fnac.html. You can then select EN for English. I put the word "zarzuela" in the search box, and several events came up. If this website sells the ticket you want, and if the transaction can go through, and if their fees are not too high, it may all work for you. As I said, I've never done this, so it may not work at all. Good luck!
