Madrid to Tangier

My family and I are traveling to Madrid this June. I have two questions: first, "How long is the train from Madrid to Tarifa?"; and second, is there any kind of immigration/passport control between Tarifa and Tangier? Thanks,
Peter

ANswer to your second questions. There is an immigration window at the Tarifa port and then in the ferry you have to fill out a form just basic your passport number reason for travel and if you have anything to declair sort of thing and then there is another immigration window in Tangier as you get off the ferry. Both are basic and fast.

When/if you take the ferry to Tanger, get in the passport line ASAP. We spent a lot of the 45 minute crossing standing in a line up because we did not rush to get this done. On the return trip this is not a problem, you go through customs once you are back on shore. Don't know about a train(?) as we arrived by rental car. Tarifa is a nice town worth the visit, especially if you are into outdoor/beach activities. Up the coast from Tarifa is an interesting Roman ruin and museum near the wee town of Bolonia. Don't miss it!
