We are arriving Madrid from ATL early A.M. Trying to decide if we should fly or take the train directly to Malaga. Don't remember the Madrid airport! Is it grueling to get to the train station from there? Taxi? Or should we just get a cheap inter country flight to Malaga? Maybe even overnight in Madrid, but don't know how far out of the city the airport is.

There is a direct bus to the train station. Not grueling at all but Malaga is long train ride so I would consider a flight since you are at the airport. Cannot remember the length of the bus but it is relatively short - maybe 30 minutes.

The airport in Madrid is quite a drive from the city and I think taxis run around 50 euros. When we traveled to Granada, we just flew from Madrid directly to Granada. I plan to fly from Madrid to Valencia in October. I think it's much easier to let the airlines handle your luggage and not have to be too alert after the overnight flight. Making connections from your transatlantic flight to Air Nostrom or Iberia is easy and can be done even without sleep....
