We need to go from Madrid airport to Barcelona by train. Can anyone offer advice as to the best way to do this? Many thanks.

Take the airport express bus to Atocha station (30 min), then take the AVE train to Barcelona. Best you buy your tickets as soon as possible, though. They have "promo" fares that sell out quickly. I just got a fare of €38 for a trip in August.The airport express bus is €5 and its route ends at Atocha. (It only makes four stops.)

Use tripadvisor to find an article on how to buy tickets online with Renfe. This can be frustrating but the saving is well worth it. Coach class ticket is all you need. Enjoy the garden in the Madrid station. We found using Ave to be a wonderful experience.

the other posters are right on point!! The airport shuttle bus is fast and efficient in all aspects. It stops at each terminal at the airport. Ask for its location when you get your luggage. The bus will be easy to see with the big logo on the side.
