Madrid TEAM REAL soccer jersey

Our soccer (football) playing grandchildren want us to bring them jerseys on our return from our trip to Spain. Are they sold in flea markets or only in sporting goods stores? Any recommendations for where we might look?

Hi Karen,
At first when I read your post title I was putting words together and focusing on Real and Madrid, which is the name of the Madrid team, Real Madrid, oh how the mind plays tricks on us. I see you live in Riverside, just wondering where you're grandkids live because Real Madrid is going to be playing here in San Diego in a couple of weeks on July 20th, a rare opportunity for them to see the team! I was in Spain last year and was able to buy a Barcelona jersey for a friend in a sporting goods store in Burgos, they had just about every Spanish team jersey. I seem to remember seeing jerseys quite often in Madrid, so you should have no problem getting one, so if you're in any of the larger cities it shouldn't be a problem. http://www.cbs8.com/story/14670440/real-madrid-to-play-chivas-at-san-diego-on-july-20

Literally every souvenir store in Madrid will be selling the jerseys. Some will be knockoffs, some authentic. If you want to cheat and purchase them in the US, head to the Adidas store at your nearest outlet mall, or mail order at http://www.soccer.com

I am pretty sure that if you find a Real Madrid jersey at a flea market, it will be vintage. If your grandkids want this season's jersey, try a sporting goods store, an Adidas store, or even a stall or shop selling tourist t-shirts and other souvenirs. What you are looking for: Real Madrid's home jersey is white with gold letters on the back. The away jersey is black. If you are looking at a bright red jersey, that's probably the Spain jersey. Warning: if your grandkids are typical fans, you should ask them if they have specific requirements: do they want the home kit jersey? The away kit jersey? A goal keeper's jersey? I agree with Michael that on-line may be the way to go. Go to www.soccershop.com and you can search by team: http://www.soccershop.com/shop-by-team-real-madrid-cf.html You can also get apparel directly from the Real Madrid C.F. website, here: http://www.realmadridshop.com/stores/realmadrid/products/product_browse.aspx?category%7ccategory_root%7c8536=Football+Kits&lid=1 But again, you need to know what you are looking for, if your grandkids are at all particular. If they're not, then you should be able to pick something up at a shop in Spain. If they want a particular number, a player's name, etc., etc., then you might do better online, rather than trying to track a specific player's name jersey down while you're on vacation. Hope that isn't too confusing.

Thanks for all your helpful replies. We live in Riverbank, not Riverside, and the grandkids are in Queens...so the July game in SoCal is, unfortunately, out of the question. I'll look to see if they play north, and in August, when the fam will be visiting. I'll be sure to ascertain what particular jersey is favored--good suggestion.

Just don't wear a Real Madrid shirt in Barcelona, or vice-versa.

It will be much cheaper to find them at small shops where they bargain with you, but you also run the risk of getting an old item or an incorrect item. For example, at some places they still have Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid jerseys with the number "9". He was "9" when he first came, but he has since changed to "7". Also, for example, the sponsor of FC Barça has changed from Unicef to Qatar Foundation, so anything with Unicef is dated. Once a man tried to sell me a Real Madrid Messi jersey - lol seriously. So it pays to educate yourself a bit before you go, but like I said, if you want to be absolutely sure you get the latest and accurate jersey, it would be best go to to a larger sporting goods store.
