Is it safe (advisable?) walking through the downtown area from the Prado through Puerta del Sol and onto the Palacio Real. We are in our mid-60's, healthy and love to get the flavor of neighborhoods. That being said, we're not too fond of "adventure". Thanks for your responses.
Perfectly safe! I have walked it on several trips and will do it again when there this month. It is a long walk, so take your time. You can go up to Gran Via to walk if you want to see the grand buildings, or take one of the earlier side streets through the local neighborhoods. After you cross Puerra del Sol, look for Plaza Mayor on your left..it is a block off the street you willl most likely be walking. At the palace, be sure to see the Armory, small builing on the corner of the grounds.
