Hi! So my travel buddy and I will be in Madrid on Jan. 1st and I know most things are closed but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas/tips about what we can do besides hitting the big sites. Has anyone been to Madrid during this time and if so is it closed up or are there still a lot of things to see and do?
Thanks!
Hey, Sara,
We were in Madrid New Year's Day last year. We were there for the prior two days, too, and so we were able to see The Prado, Picasso's Guernica, Palacio Real, and some Flamenco...all closed NYD. So on NYD, we had a late breakfast, enjoyed a lovely stroll in Retiro Park, near the Atocha train station, and then took a high-speed AVE train to nearby Toledo (30 minutes) for a day trip...Toledo had some small, interesting shops AND restaurants open late afternoon through evening. Was magical! For our Report from Spain this time of year, checkout our travel blog at http://moltogentileitalia.blogspot.com/2009/01/report-from-spain.html
