Does anyone have a recommendation for a moderately priced hotel in Madrid? We are taking a last minute trip to Madrid and are anxious for any input from experienced travelers.
We use Hotel Europa, right next to Puerta del Sol in the heart of Madrid, every time we are in Madrid - four and counting. Whether it meets your definition of moderate is anyone guess since moderate has no meaning by itself. It is moderate by my definition.
Hotel Europa is the top recommendation here, but we have never been able to get in ( did not reserve far enough in advance). Last May we stayed at 4 star Husa Paseo del Arte for 92 euro. Large and impersonal, but the room was spacious and modern, and the location, half a block from Atocha train station and the airport bus stop, was very convenient. Easy walk to Retiro Park. Reina Sofia, the Prado, Plaza Santa Ana.
The Europa is very popular and enjoys a great location. For an alternative, consider the more modern Preciados. It also has a good location. We had an upgrade on the top floor which was very nice. For feedback on these and many more check tripadvisor.com.
We stayed at Hotel Santo Domingo and liked it and the great location. Got it for $105 on Priceline. Quiet location and a small balconey off room overlooked the palacio. It was an easy walk to most sights and metro stop right in front of hotel.
Hotel Preciados is just above the moderate level, but is easy to find on discount. Gut renovation of historic building, good location if not at Puera Del Sol - and probably much quieter as a result. Have been there twice in seven years.
Another budget option very near Hotel Europa is Hostal Acapulco.
We really liked Hotel Opera, both the room and the location.
