Hi all,
This is a several part question:
1- Should I fly into Madrid and out of Barcelona or the other way around?
2- How difficult is it to take the train from one city to the other?
3- Approx cost and duration
4- Does the train stop at each City Centre?
5- Is that where my hotel should be at?
6- Is the Metro easy to use to get around to see the sights?

Jeff...in answer to your questions 1 - doesn't really matter. 2- very easy. 3- approx. 2:45 to 3:00 depending on the train you take...regular o/w cost is 102-129 Euro, altho you may be able to get an "estrella" fare at 66-77 Euro (web specials are apparently unbookable with US credit cards) . 4- yes...or very close to the city center. 5-Madrid...anywhere between the station and up to Puerta del Sol and that area....Barcelona, not sure of the area near the station, but I'd prefer to be closer to the Ramblas or Placa Catalunya. 6- Yes.
