We will be staying in Barcelona and Madrid for a week each in August. Aside from the "biggies" do you have any suggestions which may interest 2 teenage boys? Was also interested in any information on wine tours in either of these cities or nearby. Someone also mentioned "caves" to me... any thoughts on those :)?
Thanks!
Michelle, are your guys in to soccer? It's a passion for us (we're currently preoccupied with the Euro Cup!), and my 14 year old in particular is a long-time Barca fan. So a visit to Camp Nou, the stadium in Barcelona, is on his to-do list. My guys always enjoy just meandering the streets in Europe, and love a good historical site. Ask your guys what they want to do and use that as a jumping-off point.
Thanks Colleen! I have one Barcelona and one Madrid soccer fan... Unfortunately we are neevr visiting during the season. Can you get into the stadium off season?
Thanks!
Visiting Nou Camp stadium is an excellent idea. Inside the stadium there is a huge museum dedicated to the history of FC Barcelona. When I went I thought it would just be a glorified trophy room but it's so much more. It will take a couple hours to see it all. It's open year round. http://www.fcbarcelona.com/camp-nou/camp-nou-experience
I'm sure they'll love the beaches in Barcelona. They can check out Frank Gehry's fish sculpture too. The Guadi architecture should entertain them - if picking between Casa Mila or Batllo, I'd pick Batllo. It has a more fanciful interior to see and a decent roofscape. Mila has a nice museum of Gaudi and a fantastic roofscape, but a more "ordinary" apartment to see. Both are very expensive. Sagrada Familia is a must, and splurge for the tower visit - they'll love the views of the church from above. I like Madrid for the art museums, so I don't have much to recommend there. Except, and this is minor, the turtles at Atocha Station. I loved watching them...
