Depends, taxi's are good. If you're on a budget and dont have alot of bags, the metro is cheap, fast...but does require changing trains twice. you can also take the metro to Nuevos Ministerios and change to a couple of different buses that will take you straight down Paseo del Prado to Atocha

Taxis in Madrid are reasonable but don't forget to ask the cost before taking the ride. Our trip from the airport to the city center was about $20E. Our friends paid $45E. Same ride - no quotes asked for. The ride should take about 30 minutes but will depend on the time of day.
