Madrid Airport Strike? Yikes!

We're 76 & 72, ETBD fans. Planning travel to Spain in May. Scheduled return to AZ from Madrid May 15 listed as one of the weeks for an airport workers' strike, possible airport shutdown. I've been keeping up with related web sites stating contract is pending BUT gov't is leaning toward privatization, a move not likely to sit well with union. We've been thru brief European rail/bus strikes, never airport. Anyone experienced this? Have some trip-interruption coverage, but concerned about being stranded at a foreign airport, missed connections, etc. Aside from just-sit-tight, can anyone offer worst-case advice?

The latest information is that the strikes have been called off but would be wise to look at the news regularly. Just google spanish airport strikes.
