Thoughts, provocations? I want to go back to maastricht and aachen, as part of the honeymoon, probably spend 2 nights in maastricht and take an afternoon bus to aachen and back. then we'd ditch back to amsterdam staying in haarlem. I know the Haarlem cathedral is closed in winter (i have a picture of the sign saying that from last may), i'm wondering if the aachen cathedral will be closed. there are other things to do in that area, what would you do?

Be sure to visit the caves in Maastricht where the Dutch hid Jews and allied soldiers from the nazis. VERY interesting. Actually we stayed in Aachen and did a day trip to Maastricht because it was less expensive.

Try to spend a Saturday in Maastricht, when the markets are open (can't guarantee they'll be there in January, though). And don't miss the raw herring!
