Lyon or Brussles (from Paris)?

I will be in Paris for a few days next February. I have been here twice before so I thought I would take a day trip via train to another nearby town. I've been debating between visiting Brussels (or anywhere in Belgium) and Lyon. Granted I know my time will be very short in either of these cities, but I was wondering which would be more worthwhile to visit?

Hi Gabriel,

Both Lyon and Brussels are known for great food. I was in Lyon most recently and really enjoyed the city. I think that you have to decide what you're most interested in seeing and doing, then review guidebooks and decide which city seems most interesting to you. My vote goes to Lyon!

Not sure how much time you have but you could also consider Bruges.

I vote for Lyon as well. I have my enthusiasm for Brussels well under control.

Thank you! I am actually a food lover. Any particular restaurants or local dishes that you recommend?

Lyon is filled with great restaurants and I hesitate to recommend because everyone has a different idea about what's really good BUT here's one that was fun, funky and we loved the food:

La Nef des Fous

It's located in the old part of Lyon at 5, rue du Boeuf. A local recommended it to us--that's really a great way to find out where the most interesting restaurants are!

One more thing. I know I've encountered many English speaking people in Paris. Does this hold true for Lyon or do I really need to force myself to speak French? I can understand written French (not spoken though), and I speak Spanish. Would Spanish be a better option for me if most people in Lyon don't speak English?
