We have a 3 week trip planned for Sept and we cannot decide if we should do Luzern or Salzburg. Here's what we have so far:
Arrive Frankfurt and pick up car; drive to Beilstein for 2 nights then 2 nights in Bacharach. One night in Rottenburg ob der Tauber and 3 nights in Reutte. This is where we need to make a decision. Either drive to Friedrichshafen and drop the car on our way to Appenzell for a night and then on to Luzern for 2-3 nights, OR drive to Hall and Salzburg for a few nights then back to Appenzell. We are planning on spending 4 nights in the BO (lots of hiking) and 3 nights in Varenna and 1 night in Malpensa before our flight home. We love hiking and mountains but, as you can see, there are no real cities in our plan so far. Any thoughts?
