Just stroll around Lucerne and take the lake boat for a scenic tour. You don't need a sightseeing tour. It is a charming city with walls and ramparts you can climb up to, a covered bridge, swans, mountains. As for Interlaken, also take the Lake Thun boat and stop off at Spiez for its lakeside castle and chapel, Oberhofen for its gardens and "castle", and Thun for its arcaded shops. Be sure to find the stairway to take you up to the castle there and a view of the rooftop gardens along the way. All these places are gorgeous. If you want a thrill, go up into the Bernese Mountains south of Interlaken, up to Murren and then by cablecar to the Schilthorn Mountain. Check out Rick's guidebook for info on nearly all of the above. Also, you don't have to stay in Lucerne or Interlaken. Try Hotel Schmid-Alfa on Lake Lucerne in Brunnen; and Hotel Seegarten-Marina on Lake Thun in Spiez. Have a great time!!!

However, Lucerne center is a great place to stay, mediaeval feeling and you can walk to most of the sights. Also the trip up nearby Mt Pilatus Interlaken. The highlight (but expensive) is the trip up to Jungfraujoch partly by cog railway.
