Luzern accomodations

Any accomodation recommendations for Luzern that's close enough to the rail, not too expensive but nice?

Terri, It's difficult to know whether your opinion of "not too expensive but nice" are similar to mine? I stayed in This Hotel in Lucerne last year and based on my experience would definitely recommend it. The room was a bit "dated" but very clean and comfortable (it should be noted that I was in a single room, as those often tend to be a bit "spartan"). The breakfast was good (typical of Switzerland) and the dinners in the restaurant were excellent! I took a Taxi from the station to the Hotel when I arrived in Lucerne, but once I "learned the way" I walked everywhere. It's an easy five minute (or so) walk to the river and not much longer to the station. Happy travels!

A few years ago we stayed at Hotel Wilden Mann. Its in the mediavel center of town, easy walk to the train statiion (they say 8 minutes) , we walked it comfortably with luggage. Very mediaevel looking from outside. Rooms are comfortable, we also ate there once (late arrival). Food was fine. Close to Kappel bridge. Worth looking into. Easy walking distance to anywhere we wanted to go

Hotel des Alpes is a moderately priced hotel right across the river from the train station in the old town area. We like the Waldstaetterhof, a bit more upscale, also near the station.

Terri:
When will you be in Luzern? My wife and I will be staying at the Hotel Schlüssel in early May. It is located about 500 m west of the Luzern Train Station and very near public transit and a Jet Wash Laundry. (We're practical types.) We could post a PM comment to you after our stay if it would help.
