Luxembourg - worth a visit?

Hi! Has anyone been to Luxembourg? Is it worth the visit? I was thinking I could take a look in my way to Paris from Basel, it's not very much in the way I know, it adds two hours of travel, but if it's worthy I'd do it.. I've seen some pictures and it looks quite beautiful, specially the crags.. I'd like to know your opinion! Thanks!

The most interesting thing about Luxembourg City is the layout of the town itself. It sort of spills over into a ravine. Other than that... clean, pleasant, probably an enjoyable place to live... and that's about it.

I did enjoy seeing Luxembourg but it was Luxeumbourg City that I actually saw. It is quite expensive compared to some other cities, even Paris to me. It is nice to see at least one time, but unless I am in that area again, or going through that area, I really wouldn't stop again. I enjoyed Freiburg Germany, which is north of Basel a lot more. You might consider going from Paris, to Strausburg and then to Colmar, France, and Freiburg Germany as you go to Basel. I did this by train, but you might be traveling by car, which would make it easier, and you can stop where you want. I did travel from a couple of years ago by car, but since about 2006 have been taking a train with the Eurail Pass. Take care, and have a great trip.

Luxembourg City has a few cool sights, such as the casemates, the cathedral, and the modern art museum. But I agree with the other posters here - there are a lot more interesting places to visit in Europe! I would say to research some other places you might want to visit that are more on the way between Basel and Paris.

If you have the time and transportation, it is definitely worth a visit, Luxembourg is a beautiful and historic country. Fortress Luxembourg has been central to Western European history north of the Alps since Roman times. Within a few miles of its borders, you will find the old Roman city of Trier and the birthplace of France at the Reims Cathedral, as well as Aachen, where Charlemagne ruled the Holy Roman Empire. For a look at medieval history, few places can match the mountaintop castle at Vianden, Also, some of the most important battles of both world wars were fought in the area. Bastogne was the center of fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII, and you cannot really grasp the horror of WWI until you visit the memorial at Verdun. Also, Luxembourg was the ancestral home of Austria's ruling family, the Habsburga. If history does not interest you, the city, country and areas around it contain a lot of beautiful scenery.
