Luggage Storage in Paris and Tours in Nice, France

My parents and I are touring France for two weeks in August. We will have some extra luggage that we would like to store in Paris at the beginning of our trip, for when we come back to Paris near the end. Where is an ideal location to do so?

Also, we are trying to find cheap day trips from our hotel in Nice to places like Monaco, Cannes, and/or the Provence countryside. All I could find so far are private trips that expect you to rent the whole 8-passenger van, and they are very expensive. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I spent most of May 2009 in Paris and south of France including Nice. I found RS "Paris-2009" and "France-2009" guidebooks very helpful, especially the France one for information about Nice. Make sure you take some sun screen for your August trip, especially down in Nice. Happy Travels

There are plenty of day trip destinations around Nice that can be reached by local public bus or train, although don't expect bus drivers to speak English!. It's probably best to look in a guidebook for places in the region, and then check if there are buses and how frequent they are. Details of country bus routes around Nice can be found at http://www.cg06.fr/transport/transports-tam.html, although you will need to know a little bit of French to use the website most effectively. Look for "lignes" (routes), "horaires" (timetables), "tarification" (fares), and "carte du reseau" (map of routes). None of these bus services need or allow prior reservation, although routes to well-known day trip destinations can get crowded.

Also if you want to go to Cannes or Monaco it's easiest to just get the train and not mess around with escorted trips. Large stations in France have ticket machines that you can set to English and most ticket office staff at big tourist city stations will speak enough English to sell you a return ticket.
