My wife and I will be staying in Lugano in June, Our goal is to see Switzerland area--Lucerne and Wengen areas for 5 nights --Then 5 nights in Germany Flying out of Frankfurt. Does it make sense to go to Lucerne from Lugano, then backtrack to Wengen, or should we go to wengen first? thanks.

Dennis, will you be driving or taking the train? Your mode of transportation may make a difference depending on train connections to Interlaken and/or Lucerne. All things being equal, since you are flying out of Frankfort, I think it makes more sense to go to Wengen first. Then Lucerne would be on your way to Zurich and on to Frankfort. That way you would not be spending time backtracking. Wengen and the Berner-Oberland area are magnificent. While there you may be justifiably tempted to spend more time there than in Lucerne if you have the flexibility.
