We are saddened for both the wonderul people of Cinque Terre and for us who had planned a Vernazza stay in early March. We need ideas to fill the middle part of our trip. We had planned to hike in Cinque Terre. Some thoughts that have come our way are Portovenere, Lugano, and Innsbruck. All are very different, which is why we are having trouble deciding. Our original plans were Rome-Florence-Cinque Terre-Milan-Venice. We have 3 days.2 nights to reschedule. Any ideas for February 29th-March 2nd?
Bonnie, I also replied to your other Thread on this subject. Given the other destinations you'll be visiting, Lugano will be a better "fit" and the travel times will be shorter than to Innsbruck. I was in Lugano last year and it's a beautiful city. However, I'm not sure how "pleasant" the weather will be at the end of February? One of the activities I really enjoyed was a cruise down the lake and back, but I don't know if that will be operating at that time of year. Other options would be to travel up Monte San Salvatore or Monte Bre (the view is incredible from the mountains). I'd suggest having a look at the Switzerland Guidebook for other touring ideas. Happy travels!
