Ludwigsburg Castle (Schloss) in Germany

While we were stationed in Germany over 20 years ago, we visited the castle in Ludwigsburg and our children had a wonderful time in the Fairy Tale Gardens there. I have tried to find out if those gardens are still there with no success. Does anyone know if they have been deleted with more formal gardens added?

Hey Susan! I'm planning a visit to Ludwigsburg in May 09 and have received lots of informational brochures from both the city and palace tourism offices. The Fairy Tale Garden is still mentioned in their literature so I'm pretty sure it's still there. To be absolutely sure though you might want to send an e-mail to the palace information office at the address below. Happy Travels!

The Ludwigsburg website can be displayed in English and mentions the Fairy Tale Gardens. It also lists an email address. You might write to confirm their continued existance.

Shawn and Lee, thank you so much for your responses. I will contact them via email/website to see if the fairy tale gardens still exist. I hope they do- my children are grown and have children of their own; but when we planned our trip to Germany this summer, all three of them mentioned wanting to revisit the gardens. It was certainly a wonderful place to visit for our family. There was a "dancing" ruby slipper in a glass case, a pond that children could walk acroos on the "lily pads" getting squirted with water by the frogs at the edge, and other exhibitions such as a tower in which Rapunzel was supposed to reside. The children would call for her to let down her hair (in German) and a very long braid would descend from the tower. The castle (schloss) is worth the visit, but the fairy tale gardens really made it a treat! Thank you again.
