Recommendations for place to stay in Lucerne?
Budget?
For a single person or a family of 5?
I stayed at Hotel Goldener Stern last September. It's a budget hotel about 10 minutes walk from the train station. I would stay there again for sure....clean comfortable, reasonably priced, etc
Suggestions on great place to eat, must-see, River Ride, anything else?
If the weather is good, I highly recommend the "Golden Round Trip". It's a package tour that starts with a ferry ride from Lucerne to Alpnachstad, then you take the tram to the top of Mount Pilatus, then the cable car back down to Lucerne. Just search the web for "Golden Round Trip Lucerne" and you'll find all kinds of info....a great way to spend a day in Lucerne
We loved the Hotel Seeburg across the lake from the town. Get a room with a balcony in the new section of the hotel. It's so beautiful. My only problem was that we wanted to sleep with the doors to the balcony open at night, but the road in front of the hotel seemed to be somewhat busy all night long, and I didn't have earplugs.
Easy to catch take the bus back & forth, and one ticket is good for all day.
If you like Thai, there is a good tiny little place called Takrai. We took the guided walk, offered by the TI, it was quite good.
Nancy, try this.
We stayed at the Radisson a year ago. It was a nice hotel with a nice restaurant for breakfast. The smoking in the close-by lobby could still be bothersome, while we were eating though. Unfortunately the smokers have ruined Lucerne. They smoke inside of hotels, restaurants, stores, the rail road station, you name it. In France and Britain they aren't allowed to smoke indoors.
We stayed at the Hotel des Alpes. Right by the Kappelbrucke and walking distance to everything.
Has anyone stayed at the HOTEL GOLDENER STERN?
Nancy,
See my post above...
