Louvre tour suggestions?

Looking for a decent Louvre tour. I've used "Context" in the past, but those can be a little over my head. I am not an art historian. Any ideas for other tour companies?

Or go to the Louvre website and download one or more of their DIY tours which they call "Thematic Trails." The Louvre audio guide can also help, once you figure out how to use it. The "Palace to Museum" trail will take you through almost all of the museum (not as daunting as it may sound) and past pretty much all the museum highlights (though they aren't listed in this tour, keep your eyes open and you won't miss them).

We took a Louvre Highlights Tour by Paris Walks and it was perfect. It was a Wednesday night when the museum is open later which was great - I see there is one on July 22 at 4pm: check out their site:

I agree with Bronwen. I'd been to Paris 5 times before I went to the Louvre (I much prefer the Impressionists), so went on the Paris Walks highlights tour. It showed you the "must-sees" such as Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, the Mona Lisa, etc. plus included many other items. The leader was knowledgeable and informative but at a level that non-serious art lovers could understand. I've also done many other Paris Walks and have enjoyed them all. Bon Voyage!

We did the Rick Steves audio tour of the Louvre, then went back and spent more time at the things that most interested us.

I like the RS audio tours, and have used them before, but when with you are with others, it is difficult to stay together without having to start and stop the audio constantly.

I had trouble with the RS audio guide for the Louvre (2 years ago) - not sure why, though I think they had moved some things around since he made it. I just couldn't follow the path or find the pieces, a lot of the time. I had no problems with his other guides and enjoyed them a lot. I took a couple of the Paris Walks tours (not the Louvre) and enjoyed them.
