Louvre on Wedenesday evening

Hi! I'm travelling to Paris on August, I'll be there from Saturday to Thursday. I'm thinking of going to the Louvre on Wednesday evening, because of the crowds, what do you think? I'd go about 5-6 pm and stay till they close... I've read that it's is less crowded and more peaceful... have any of you go on a Wednesday evening??
Thanks!

I've gone several times in the evening. It's absolutely lovely. You'll love it.

I agree with Bets. Went in the evening twice last July and it was 1000x more enjoyable than during the day.

Ditto, it's much better in the evening. Just be sure you understand the difference between "smaller crowds" and "no crowds". It is still crowded, but you can move around, you can backtrack to see something you missed, you can stand still for a bit instead of doing the elbow-to-elbow forward shuffle. We went two separate evenings last summer, only did one wing each evening and left the third wing for another trip. It made it much more digestible and enjoyable. Also did the same at Versailles...were there from 4:00 - 6:00, tour buses were all gone, we could see all the mirrors in the Hall of Mirrors...it was perfect.

Just be sure to check on the Louvre website what galleries are open. We had a disappointing evening visit once because Napolean's apartments were closed, along with many other galleries. Mona Lisa, Winged Victory and other biggies were all viewable.

"Just be sure you understand the difference between "smaller crowds" and "no crowds". It is still crowded" When I was there twice in the evening last July, it was not crowded at all.
In fact, it was almost empty and we covered pretty much the whole place.

I always try to work it in so I take folks there in the evening. I have no idea what day of the week it's been, but there's never been a crowd except in front of the Mona Lisa -- and then only twenty or so people in the room.

One little addition: the light when you come out of the Louvre in the evening is spectacular if you go back up the spiral staircase or the escalator inside the pyramid. You see the palace outside with the spots on it through the glass of the pyramid--worth the visit.

I did that a few years ago, and it was not busy at all compared to the daytime. August will be busy regardless, but it will probably be less busy at night than during the day.

My husband and I just did this in May. We went for hot chocolate at Angelina's on the Rue du Rivoli and then over to the Louvre around 6pm. Not crowded at all.
