Louvre: Best time (crowds) Wed/Fri nights? early morning?

I am wondering what is the best time to see the Louvre -
has anyone gone on Friday and Wednesday night ?

(The Louvre is open until 10pm, but free entry for anyone under 26 ).

Other than those days are there better times/days to go?

(I am in PAris for 2 more weeks.)

I can't help with the best day/time, but the worst is when the d'Orsay is closed. If you try a night, please let us know. I'd think it would be a good time, but then maybe that's when the locals who work during the day go. I think RS says to go late afternoon.

I went right when it opened in the morning (waited in line - not long at all but behind me it got really really long). The tour groups started coming in soon thereafter. Best avoid it the day after it's closed.

"the worst is when the d'Orsay is closed."

The Orsay is closed on Mondays.

I was there in early June on a Friday evening from about 7.30 pm and it was "empty" compared with 3 pm the same day (when I fled the crowds). For example, there were only about a dozen people around the Mona Lisa at 9.15 pm. An hour or so earlier, there was no one in front of the Winged Victory (at 2 pm there were at least 50 people thronging there).

Allow enough time, though. They start closing galleries as much as 30 minutes before the official closing time.

I went late Wednesday evening a couple of winters ago and it was wonderful, very uncrowded. I'm planning to go late in the day Wednesday on my next trip to Paris in September.

We went last June, Wednesday about 5:00, entering through the underground shopping center. It was not particularly crowded except around the Mona Lisa, where we probably waited five minutes to get up to the front.
