Currently planning a trip to Lourdes and Carcassone area in November. Any peronal tips for hotels in either town? I know it will be off season so I don't expect crowds of tourists. Has anyone gone over to Rennes Le Chateau from Carcassone? Any other small towns on the route between Lourdes and Carcassone or near Carcassone that you recommend visitng? Thanks for your input. I appreciate everyone's suggestions and will research them as I plan.
Lourdes is very quiet in November - pilgrim season is in the summer months. Presumably you will be in a car??? If so, draw a line on the map between the two places and try and stick to that general route - the mountains are spectacular. Bear in mind though that the later in the year, the more chance of snow, so be flexible - some passes will be shut. Have a look at this year's Tour de France route on line - see if you can get to some of the "Cols" they were up.
We stayed in Best Western Beausejour (right across from train station) in Lourdes this July. It is a 10 minute walk to the Grotto from the hotel. Lourdes is beautiful. The hotel was pretty nice and clean, rooms small but nice and clean bathroom. Nov might be cold. In Carcassonne we stayed in a hotel that Rick recommends (Espace Cite) but it was just OK for one night. The bathroom is terrible, especially the shower. We did not have car so we had to stay near the train stations. Hope this helps. Enjoy Lourdes.
