I am looking for somewhere to unwind for 3 days mid trip. There doesn't need to be museums or other things to see. Prefer somewhere south of Frankfurt. Preferably somewhere on a lake. Also, not crazy crowded with tourists.
Will consider Austria or Switz, but Germany would be better.
Does this place exist?
EDIT: This is for early June.
Lake Constance "Bodensee" would be a wonderful choice. It is popular with German tourists but June is not high season yet. And you don't see many Americans there. It borders on Switzerland and Austria.
I agree with Beatrix. It is beautiful there. We only had time to stop for lunch and look around briefly on our way from the Black Forest to Fussen. Some day I would love to go back and stay a few days.
As the others have said, sit back at one of the restaurants on the harbor at Lindau, Friedrichshafen, or one of the towns on the Swiss side of the Bodensee. There are a lot of tourists here, but mostly German... and not nearly as packed with tourists as the Cinque Terre.
