Looking for the best places to stay near Cochem for a family

My family and I, 4 adults and 2 children, want to stay in the Cochem area for 1 night and were looking at the hostel as an option. Wanted to know if anyone has stayed there and would recommend it and/or other good family hotel options. We will have a car so we are flexible. Thank you.

We were in Cochem in April and stayed at Pension Hendricks. It was wonderful and we highly recommend it. The location is good, there's free parking and a wonderful terrace with a view. The breakfast is great and you can walk into town easily.

I wouldn't normally do a hostel for a family, only because - by the time you add up all the single charges - you can do better with a couple of rooms elsewhere (or even an apartment). Pensions have very high standards, and affordable, through this region. I don't think you can go wrong taking that advice. While not quite as cozy as a bed and breakfast might be, a Pension varies from a family renting out a couple of rooms to a place where many rooms are rented so more like a small hotel. The downside is normally a bathroom down the hall (just a sink and mirror in your room), but it's usually shared by just a couple of rooms.

DJH (official German) Hostels are sort of "in bed" with the education system. That hostel, like many others, is often full of rowdy school kids on week-long outings with their teachers. They tend to take over the entire hostel - at all hours of the night. Really. A family room is little insulation against the sort of unrestrained pre-adolescent mayhem that goes on in the common areas and hallways. It might be OK during school vacation periods when they're at home with their families - July 8 - Aug. 16 is summer vacation in the state of Rheinland Pfalz, where Cochem lies, and other states have vacation around the same time, generally, so you might be safe there if your trip is at that time. But I would simply look elsewhere. My favorite family-friendly hosts in Cochem have retired :( . Haus Andreas has a great location in the old town and gets a thumbs up from Bavaria Ben - I take his thumbs seriously. His review. Check the 5 other options at his site as well.
