Looking for Romantic Swiss Town/City

Hello all! I am looking for a nice town/city in Switzerland to spend about 5 days in. I would love to stay in a b&b or rent an apt for the week, spend time hiking, walking around, just enjoying a few romantic days in Switzerland. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

When are you going? That may affect the answers.

Thanks for your response! I would be going probably from October 23rd to October 28th. The plan now is for my boyfriend to fly into Luxembourg on the 22nd, see some things in Luxembourg, go to Switzerland on the 23rd, leave on the 27th or 28th to go to Heidelberg for a day/night, and then go to Kaiserslautern (where I am living currently) on the 29th. Do you think that is too much/possible? Thanks again!

OK, so you would like a romantic hideaway. I will try to think of someplace that would be sweet even if the weather does not cooperate. Last week of October can be iffy in the mountains. If you are OK with hiking in the rain and no nightlife options, there are places that will fit. Or if you would prefer a small city with lots of things to see and do, even in cloudy waether, with options for day trips to the mountains on good weather days, luzern might be the answer.

Hollis, I agree with the suggestions that Lola provided. I don't know if it's considered "romantic", but Lucerne would be an excellent choice. It's a very walkable city with some interesting attractions and good day trips possible. If the weather is unpleasant, there are choices for indoor activities. There will also be a wider variety of night life. At that time of year, I probably wouldn't choose the Lauterbrunnen Valley or Murren unless you want the solitude. The weather could be an "issue", leaving you stuck inside your wonderfully characteristic Chalet for much of the time. Happy travels!

If you want to be in the mountains, Chatet Fontana in the tiny carfree village of Mürren and both rooms in the B&B, and a private apartment on the ground floor. They are open until Nov. 1. It will be quiet, as this is post-season. Weather-itnis cold and rainy there today, but starting Wednesday the forecast is for warm and sunny. By Oct. 23 it could be anything, but if you have the right clothes you can hike and walkmin comfort. I believe some of the hotels in the larger village of Lauterbrunnen, in the valley below Muürren, have apartments. You might ask for one with a view of the waterfall. For more of a city experience, luzern would be my suggestion. It is on a lake surrounded by mountains. On a nice day you could go to nearby Rigi by boat for hiking. However, we have never stayed in Luzern so I can't suggest lodging there. I hope others can.

Thank you both so much! Lucerne was top on our list of possibilities. Now I just need find a good bed and breakfast/hotel room that has a good view...If either of you have a good idea where (or where to look) I would appreciate the advice. Thanks again!

My husband and I loved Luzern! We stayed at a more hotel-like lodging so I cannot give you a recommendation there. Do check out the RS guidebook, I'm sure there will be notes on local b&bs. I did want to tell you a few romantic ideas - rent a paddleboat on the lake (surprisingly cheap!) and float around with the swans! Pick one of the many small restaurants that features fondue and have a delicious dinner by candlelight. And definitely visit the Lion wall carving - fascinating!
