we are visitng friends in Wermelskirchen but need a place to stay nearby. Does anyone have experience with this area and can provid us with a recommendation?

You are probably not going to find many people on this website with intimate knowledge of Wermelskirchen. However, Wermelskirchen has a website at www.wermelskirchen.de with lots of accommodations listed, with prices and URLs. Why not look over them, pick some possibilities, and ask your friends to check them out. I wouldn't be afraid to pick a place in Wermelskirchen based on it looking good on the website. The Germans have such a high standard that practically any place will be fine.
