Hi - the hubs and I are travelling to France next week (whoohoo!). We're flying in to CDG and renting a car, spending 2 nights in the Loire Valley and 3 nights in Sarlat. We need to book (last minute) a place for our final 2 nights before flying out of CDG (flight leaves at 10:30am so we want to be relatively close to CDG). We are thinking of staying in either Versailles or Fontainebleau the last 2 nights. Any preference between those two cities? Or an alternative suggestion? Thanks in advance - cheers! Jessica
What do you like to do? If you'll have the car, the Fontainebleau forest is really a neat place to explore. The chateau isn't as grand as the one in Versailles, but it is still worth the visit - and has the only original throne in existence in France. Fontainebleau has an urban feel, but yet isn't large or sprawling and you can walk everywhere. There are a lot of hotels and I'd be surprised if you couldn't find availability this time of year. The only other suggestion I would have is that if you wanted something totally different - you could try Disneyland Paris and its surrounding area. If you do choose Fontainebleau, I can give more information about the market, bakeries, hotels, etc. It's pretty off-the-radar for most guide books.
