My husband, mother, one year old son, and I are going to be in Paris in November. It seems like an apartment would be the best idea for lodging. We'd love to be in the Rue Cler area. Does any one have any info or advice they can share? Thanks!
Hi, Erin - Rue Cler area is great - wonderful food shopping there, including beautiful fruits, veggies and flowers and a small supermarket. As for advice, if I were you, I'd try for an apartment on a lower floor, even if the building has an elevator. I have read that sometimes it takes longer to get it fixed if it breaks down. I'm sure somebody here will come up with some good apartment finders websites.
Erin, Living in an apartment was definitely ideal for us! We were there last month for 10 days and really liked the fact we could eat in if we wanted, and wash clothes too!
Our aprtment was near Notre Dame (1/2 block!) on the 5th floor. If you have a toddler, you should look for a lower floor. Many apartments don't have lifts so double check on that when you book an apartment.
PM me if you have any ??s
This link:http://www.parisby.com/ has apartments. I used Romeby for a fabulous apartment in Rome. Liked the company. Rue Cler is where I stay as well. Have a pleasant trip.
There are 100s of Paris apt rental agencies, but they do charge you a hefty fee. You might try www.fusac.fr where you can rent directly from the owner. Of course, it is perhaps risky in its own way, but frankly we've even had problems with agencies. Seems the French interpret contracts differently than we do!
I used rentalo.com and worked directly with the owner. For 8 nights I paid 111 euros a night, which seemed very reasonable to me.
homelidays.com is a website we've used with success for Paris, Rome, and Madrid. You deal directly with the owners. The site encourages comments from those who've stayed, so you'll get a good idea of what you're looking at. To me, Rue Cler is getting far too touristy....I prefer slightly farther out, in less-visited neighbourhoods.
