My wife, 2yr old and I are looking for a place to stay one night near the train station. We plan to arrive late on a Wednesday evening from Hamburg.
Oh yes, how are hotels on arriving late in the evening to check in Germany. Usually, I stay with relatives, but since they have families now. I need to find places to stay.
Pension Spehnkuch is about a block from the Hbf in Würzburg. It's a simple place, with the bathroom and shower down the hall, but otherwise nice, and reasonably priced. In earlier RS guidebooks he was recommended. I haven't seen one resently.
The operator speaks excellent English so you shouldn't have much problem explaining your late arrival in an email. I always plan my arrival at hotels for before dinner, so I don't know how they would respond to a late arrival, but they might insist on a prepayment.
I am sure that there are nicer hotels for this family to stay in. That is a true pain for a family with a 2 year old to have to go down the hall to the bathroom!
Do let the hotel know ahead of time that you are coming in late and that you have a 2 year old and what kind of bed arrangements you would like, such as a cot, crib.
