We also are in the planning stage of a trip to Marrakech. Have you bought any guidebooks? I like the DK Top Ten guide--lots of color pics and good descriptions of hotels and restuarants, etc. Look at the hotel websites and then check Tripadvisor comments. Frommer's is good too.

I/we've been to Marrakech several times staying in places of varying quality..and of course right now i can't find the Morocco info box...But you might want to check the Riad du Lion www.riad-du-lion.com...I'm sure not doing publicity, but it's owned by French/Moroccans who happen to be the children of my husband's godfather. It's located quite near the Place Jamaa El Fna.

Yes I have done quite a bit of research however most of the time that I travel I find accommodations via others. I have looked at trip advisors however they are very limited on comments regarding single seniors. I will look again and seek out your recommendations. Thanks for your help

We'll be in Marrakech the day after tomorrow. I also did a lot of reseach; we're staying at Riad Amid Victoria. It was the result of availability mainly, then reviews together with price. I used a combination of Lonely Planet, Venere, and Trip Advisor to reach a decision. I don't know when you're planning to be in Morocco, but it's really busy in October. (I'm in Fez right now, trying to stay an extra night at Dar Roumana (absolutely amazing) and it's booked - so is every other Riad/Dar in the Medina).

Through Venere.com it came to 60 euros p/night; the Riad's website has details like pictures and prices, which are higher than what I'm paying. The owner/manager speaks English, which was important for me, as my French is horrendous. I'll post an update with an objective review after my stay :)

There is an IBIS hotel (big French chain) right next to the train station in Marrakech. Reasonable prices and no surprises. Walkable distance to "the square". Eat at "the square".
