Hi All! We're looking to spend a couple of nights in the Fussen/Schwangau area so that we can enjoy a full day to do the castles and the area. Since we'll be driving, I'm also open to suggestions Reutte. Where did you stay? In addition to your accomodation recommendations, what were your favorite places to eat? As always...thanks!

Hotel Helmerhof both to sleep and eat. Fabulous view to the castles and the best food (and affordable) around.

We stayed in Fussen at a RS recommended hotel that we didn't care for. We liked Fussen but we wish we had stayed right at the base of the castles. We would have enjoyed that much more since that is why we were there. I would look on tripadsor.com and choose from there.

there are a lot of small villages around the castle you can find farm house very cheap to stay. I recall there is a really big lake along the way to the castle, just before you get to the castle, it's on your right, from Munich. There are a couple of villages by the lake and you can find farmers with room. I stayed for 2 nights a couple of years ago, it's cheap and clean, small balcony with a castle view.

A regular hotel not too far from the castles (Castle view from the room we stayed in). On the bus route to the castles. Pleasant 2 km walk to Fussen if you are so inclined.
