I'm looking for an apartment to rent in Paris for 1 month. The start and end dates are very flexible. The amount I'm looking to spend is around $800 US. I'm trying to find rentals in any of the major European cities to consider.
Do you mean $800 per week or per month? As others have said $800 per month is a joke anywhere in Paris for a furnished place unless you know someone who can give you a discount. How big an apartment do you need? Any particular district? If you know any people from France who live in Wisconsin, ask them and see if they someone who might rent to you directly. That is how I once rented a great apartment in the 15th and that was $600 per week in 2010.
Take a look at listings on VRBO for Paris to get an idea about charges for apartment rentals. I think you won't find anything for $800 for a month in Paris. In other cities you may be luckier. I'm thinking somewhere in Spain or Portugal for lower rents.
Unfortunately, your budget for Paris is not realistic. 800 USD is only about 600 EUR or 20 EUR a night. You can't even find a youth hostel in Paris for that amount. Start by looking at a vacation rental website like vrbo.com or homeaway.com to see what typical monthly rates are available.
You want to pay $800 dollars (about 611€) for a one month apartment rental in Paris?? You would be lucky to find a one week rental in Paris for that! The cheapest time to go would be in the winter, but not over the holidays. That is considered high season. You might do better to look in Eastern Europe. I use vrbo.com and homeaway.com for apartment rentals. When you choose a location I think you can narrow it down by your budget. Good luck with your quest. If you do find something please come back and share the information with is. EDIT: Apparently Laura and I were replying at the same time. Sometimes you can get a better deal by staying for a month, but for your budget I would look in a smaller village.
Jerry, sorry, you can't get an unfurnished apartment here in my small town for that much if its in a decent area, you can forget trying to rent a furnished apartment with all the utilities prepaid,, I think your budget is completely unrealistic. Unless you mean 800 dollars a week? Smaller cities will be cheaper, places like Spain and Greece cheaper, but still , your budget for a vacation rental is totally off base even in most other places.
Thanks everyone. I know the budget is low compared to what I've experienced in my travels there. I'd be traveling by myself so my rental budget isn't high...but my needs are basic. I am considering other major cities in Europe and have been to many of them. I have used VRBO in the past in the US and in Europe with great success but typically they are nicer than I really need...and more expensive.
Jerry, you might find something OK on airbnb.com. I think they have a wider selection than other services, including rooms in people's houses etc. Good luck!
