Frances, If you're staying in Bayeux, you can see the Bayeux Tapestry on your own. As I recall, they have AudioGuides available. There's an excellent D-Day Museum in Bayeux also, which you can tour on your own. Regarding tours, you might consider: > D-Day Historian (as mentioned in the previous reply) > Dale Booth Normandy Tours > Overlord Tours > Ellwood von Siebold Which one to take will depend on which one has space available, your budget and your time frame. Some of these require tour members to stay in Bayeux the previous night, as the tours depart sharply at 08:00. Based on your post, a one-day "American Highlights" tour would probably be what you're interested in. These usually cover all the main sights, including the beaches (especially Omaha), the American Cemetery, St. Mere Eglise, Pointe du Hoc and possibly a few of the "Band of Brothers" locations. If you're interested when you visit the Cemetery, ask the Guide to point out the location of the graves of two of the Niland brothers. They were the inspiration for the movie "Saving Pvt. Ryan". At St. Mere Eglise, you'll notice that Pvt. Steele is still hanging from the Church Steeple! If you've ever seen "The Longest Day", that story will be familiar. Whichever tour you decide on, I'd suggest pre-booking as soon as you have your dates finalized. They often book up early. Happy travels!

When Battlebus was still in business, our guide was Dale Booth who now has his own tour business. We thought his knowledge of history, strategy, etc. was amazing, and his enthusiasm was incredible. I would certainly recommend him.
