I travel to Europe each year to Fr/Ger/Swit for skiing and visiting relatives and picking grapes but I wonder if you have any suggestions for a "Long stay" in the Provence area of France as I am not to familiar with that area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....Thank you Gav Bowman
I'm in the midst of planning a 5 week driving tour of france with arount 10 nights in Provence. Booked the flight using Aeroplan last night :) Are you wanting to stay in a Farmhouse, B & B, Gite, self catering or a working vacation ??? As for places to see and things to do in Provence, here are a couple of useful links that I am using as a guide... France from the Dordogne to Provence: minimizing the crowds and maximizing the enjoyment... If the link doesn't work.. Google... France from the Dordogne to Provence: minimizing the crowds and maximizing the enjoyment ..Hopefully it will top the search. http://www.intltravelnews.com/2007/09/france-%E2%80%94-from-the-dordogne-to-provence-minimizing-the-crowds-and-maximizing-the-enjoyment http://www.francetriptailor.com/en/c/trip-provence The triptailor has been useful as I've been creating my own google map using some of the suggestions.. As I really enjoyed the movie "A good Year" starring Russel Crowe and based in Provence I googled to try and discover which villages it was filmed in and came across another great website.. http://www.luberonexperience.com/
Hi, I don't have anything to suggest, but I was wondering how you got started picking grapes in France? I'm trying find information, but so far everything just says, pick a town and start asking around.
Except that, as a US citizen on a tourist visa, you are prohibited for seeking employment legally in Europe.
This is, of course, a three month old post that had no responses until today.
I didn't realize that there wasn't a legal way to do it. My apologies if I offended anyone.
@Teresa: If you enjoyed "A Good Year", then you should definitely check out "A year in Provence" - the movie is fine, but the book is better.
Grape picking memories from my youth. Incredibly hard stoop labor.
My wife picked grapes in California. Before the romance of it overwhelms you understand that it is really hard, really tedious back breaking work with a very sharp knife and , in truth, not romantic at all.
Nigel,
We always joke that it's not wine but someone's blood. I had a clippers that kept hitting the skin between the thumb and index finger. Meanwhile the locals were three rows ahead of Miss Wimpy.
Nigel, Like you said, I think the romance of it would wear off in about 30 minutes, then it would be time to move on to more important things, that is tasting the finished product!
Clippers???? You were lucky. You must have had incriminating photos of somebody. All my wife had was an extremely sharp single edged blade. She wasn't fast.
