We need to fly from London to Brussels, then train to Bruge on October 19th. What is the closest airport to the Brussels train station that will get us to Bruge?

You didn't mention why you needed to fly, but another option is the train. We are taking the Eurostar from London to Brussels and then another train to Bruge on October 16th. The entire journey will take about 4 hours and 15 minutes. We figured that with the early arrival time at the airport, waiting for bags, transfering to the train station then waiting for the train, it was much faster and cheaper to take the train. We booked on RailEurope (actually was cheaper than Eurostar and other websites - they had a free shipping promotion) for about $100 per person.

If you haven't bought your plane tickets yet, I'd agree with Julie and also recommend the Eurostar from London to Brussels over the flight. I used to travel regularly between London and Brussels for business and always found the Eurostar to be more reliable and just as fast (taking into account getting to/from airport in London). The Eurostar takes you into the Brussels Midi train station. From that station, you can then get a train to Bruge.
