Are the HMS Belfast and the Golden hind different enough to warrant going to see both or is one better that the other?
The HMS Belfast is a World War II warship, while the Golden Hind is a 16th century ship. I would say they are very different, they'd have to be, but to say one is better than the other is impossible. One may be of more interest to you than the other, though.
About the only thinga they have in common is that they were both warships and float, otherwise, they are very diffirent. If you are interested in ships, see them both, there is no duplication.
Deborah, I quite enjoyed HMS Belfast and spent the better of a day exploring it on my last visit to London. My interest lies primarily in WW-2 history rather than "earlier" versions, so this was a better choice for me than the Golden Hind. I'd highly recommend a visit to HMS Belfast! The displays on board are very well done, and the ship had a distinguished history, including action in D-Day and the Korean War. Happy travels!
Thanks for the posts, I wasn't sure if a ship could be interesting... sounds like it is.
I have visited both and they are well worth a visit. HMS Belfast is an original WW2 ship, whereas the Golden Hind is a replica of a sailing ship (but a very well made one, and I believe seaworthy as well as I recall that they sold postcards depicting her at sea).
Sorry to jump in on this post but has anyone toured the Brittania in Edinburgh? Is it worthwhile?
Bob - the Brittania is an old ocean going "yacht" - actually a compact cruise liner! It has a LOT of history and is worth visiting just for that sake.
Yep, Britannia is worth a visit, especially if royalty is an interest. It was built for the royal family as I recall and the present Queen spent a lot of her time on it. I think it was ;aunched near the time of her coronation.
I think the Britannia is where newlyweds Prince Charles and Princess Diana honeymooned.
